Public Transportation

Birmingham does not have the largest population, as many residents of Birmingham AL real estate can testify to. This in fact makes up part of the appeal for many residents, along with the weather of course. While a cook might not be as busy as they would be running a Muskoka catering company, there is a certain attraction to Birmingham which suits many.

Because it is not a huge city, you will not find as many public transportation options in Birmingham as you would in other areas of the country. A look at New York or Dallas, for example, will show many different types of public transportation available, from subways to high speed trains. There are much fewer copper lugs holding together the systems offered in this sunny southern city, though what is available is certainly suitable for most residents.

The most original part of the public transportation program in Birmingham is without a doubt the DART system. The acronym stands for Downtown Area Runabout Traffic. As you can most likely infer from the name, this system is available to downtown passengers only. It is a useful way of getting from your job working a drive pulley in the core of the city to a lunch appointment on the other side. It is also a great way for the city to keep to its commitments to stay green.

The DART systems uses only electric street cars, many of them vintage models which have been restored back to their early 20th century glory. The cars are open concept, so passengers can enjoy the full benefits of the beautiful southern days. The rides are also very inexpensive; at 25 cents a trip, you can put the extra money away and save up for some new Bahco tools!

The DART system has proven to be very popular with people in Birmingham, so much so that new trolleys and new routes have been added over the years. There are now several extra runs during lunch hour, perfect for getting you back to your work the pneumatic conveying system as soon as possible.

For people travelling around the suburbs of the city and throughout the county at large, typical bus systems are available within these routes. The public buses are run by the Birmingham Jefferson County Transit Authority. They are air conditioned and a great alternative to rising gas prices and individual carbon emissions!
